Enhancing Your Squats

This post was written as part of an assignment for ENG317

All exercises are great for the body, burning fat, building muscle, keeping active, and so much more. But each exercise, as I’m sure you’re all aware of, has a different purpose for the body. Walking helps your cardiovascular system, lunges help all of the muscles in your lower extremities. And push-ups help everything in your upper extremity. There are so many other well-known exercises, and others that are not as well known that are just as great for you. I wanted to designate this post strictly to squats. During my outings to the gym, I always make sure to get in a few or strictly do them for the whole time I’m there because I love them so much. Don’t think of your regular squat, though they’re great they can become so boring very shortly. I have started first with weighted squats, you do these by take a 20-pound barbell and place it over your shoulders but hold it up slightly so not all the weight is on the back of your neck because that can cause a lot of pain. From there stand with your feet equally apart and perform squats. I have expanded them by having a leg bent behind me with the top of my foot resting on a seat behind me and then doing a squat on one leg. It can be hard at first when performing these one legged weighted squats and may even feel funny but with practice, it feels very nice on your muscles.
